Unemployment in Mexico fell to 3.6% in the third quarter of 2017

Unemployment in Mexico stood at 3.6% of the Economically Active Population (EAP) in the third quarter of 2016, lower than the 4% registered in the same period of 2016, reported today the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).

Mexico, Nov 14 (EFE) .- Unemployment in Mexico stood at 3.6% of the Economically Active Population (EAP) in the third quarter of 2016, lower than the 4% registered in the same period 2016, reported today the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

From July to September past the unemployed population totaled 1.9 million people in a country with a PEA of 54.4 million people, who represent 59.4% of the population aged 15 and over.

The underemployed population, which declared having need and availability to offer more hours of work that the current occupation allows, reached 7% of the total employment, lower than the 7.8% reported in the third quarter of 2016.

The Inegi, which considers employees at people over 14 who work at least six hours a week and in any position, indicated that the number of the employed population stood at 52.4 million people (96.4%).

people in the informal economy accounted for 57.2% of the employed population.

60.5% of the employed population was concentrated in services, another 25.6% in the industry, 13.3%. primary sector and 0.6% did not specify its economic activity.

68.5% of Mexican workers are employees, 22.4% are self-employed, 4.7% are people without a fixed payment they work in businesses or family plots and 4.4% are employer or employer.

With seasonally adjusted series, without seasonal factors per season, in the quarter in question the rate of unemployment stood at 3.3% of the EAP compared to the previous quarter.

Mexico has 123.5 million inhabitants, according to the demographic projections made from last population census for 2017.

In 2016, 43.6% of the population (53.4 million) lived in poverty, according to the report of the National Council for Policy Evaluation of Social Development (Coneval).
