The group of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament (S & D) today called for the next president of the Eurogroup to belong to his political party, as is currently the case with the Dutch Jeroen Dijsselbloem, whose successor will be elected on December 4.

Brussels, Nov 27 (EFE) .- The group of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament (S & D) today called for the next president of the Eurogroup to belong to his political party, as happens currently with the Dutch Jeroen Dijsselbloem, whose successor will be elected on December 4.

"We believe that the main position in the meetings of the finance ministers of the eurozone must remain in the socialist and democratic family, "the vice president of training, the German Udo Bullmann and the spokesperson in the committee of affairs, said in a statement. Economic and Monetary Affairs of the European Parliament, the French Pervenche Berès.

Both described as "dangerous" that the presidencies of the main EU institutions - the Commission European Parliament, the European Council and the European Parliament - are in the hands of the European People's Party.

"This does not reflect the political balance across Europe, which is essential if we succeed in the next steps to complete the Economic and Monetary Union during the following years, "said the two politicians.

In any case, the MEPs stressed that the socialist group remains committed to the idea that "in the end" the president of the Eurogroup is the European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs, who, in his opinion, should become, also, vice president of the Community Executive.

Bullmann and Berès reminded that this model is already followed in the case of the Union's high representative for Foreign and as an advantage for the Eurogroup highlighted the increase in democratic accountability.

The Eurogroup, the meeting of the Ministers of Economy and Finance in the area of euro, will choose at its meeting on December 4 to its new president (a minister of the sector), which will replace Dijsselbloem from January 13, when the mandate of the Dutch.

Among the favorites are members of socialist governments such as the Slovakian Peter Kazimir and the Portuguese Mario Centeno, as well as the independent Italian Pier Carlo Padoan and the French liberals, Bruno Le Maire, and Luxemburgish, Pierre Gramegna.

The Spanish holder, Luis de Guindos, has refused on several occasions to present himself as a candidate.
