At least nine foreign oil companies are interested in the exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons in 20 areas with potential in Bolivian territory, the minister of Hydrocarbons of the Andean country, Luis Alberto Sánchez.

La Paz, Nov 26 (EFE) .- At least nine foreign oil companies are interested in the exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons in 20 areas with potential in Bolivian territory, reported today the Minister of Hydrocarbons of the Andean country, Luis Alberto Sánchez.

One of the results of the IV Forum of Gas Exporting Countries (FPEG) held this week in Santa Cruz (east) was the expression of interest of different companies in Bolivian hydrocarbons, Sánchez said in an interview with the state channel.

Among the interested firms, Sanchez mentioned the Dutch Anglo Shell, the company of Algeria Sonatrach, Sonagas of Equatorial Guinea and the Russian Gazprom, among others.

Within the activities foreseen in the summit of the FPEG, the Bolivian Government presented to the representatives of various oil companies the "Atlas of Potential Hydrocarbons "in the national territory, with the objective of attracting the investment of foreign capital for exploration and energy exploitation.

Although the content of the atlas is not publicly disseminated, the Bolivian authorities had anticipated that they would show 80 areas with significant hydrocarbon potential divided into four regions.

Sanchez noted today that, after that presentation, the companies "expressed interest in exploring and investing in Bolivia".

Another result of the appointment in Santa Cruz was the decision to create in that Bolivian city an office of the FPEG that will have all the statistical information on gas in the world.

The Bolivian minister recalled that the central office of the agency is in Qatar and it is expected that The headquarters in Santa Cruz will be fully operational within a year.

For the authority, the event was a "total success" and highlighted that events such as these position Bolivia as the "center energy of South America. "

The event was held between last Tuesday and Friday and was attended by three presidents, including the host, Evo Morales, as well as a Twenty ministers of the countries that are part of the forum.

Russia, Iran, Qatar, Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Libya, Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, and Emirates Arabs (countries with full rights), the Netherlands, Iraq, Oman, Peru, Norway, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan (observers) make up the forum.
